Volunteers are welcome at the Carroll County Animal Shelter to socialize
the animals and walk the dogs that are in the adoption area. You can join the
Saturday volunteers between 10:00 and 1:00 am on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Saturdays
of every month. It's a great way for you to get some walking exercise and have a
canine companion along with you, or to provide a little extra TLC for the
puppies and kittens. Volunteers between the ages of 12 and 16 must be
accompanied by a parent or adult.
Contact CCHS at 770-830-2763 and leave a message if you are interested or
would just like to have more information.
Get involved with CampusCATS
CampusCATS is a non-profit all-volunteer organization based on the campus of
the University of West Georgia. Their mission is to humanely manage and reduce
the feral cat population there through a trap-neuter-release program and through
education in responsible pet care. Volunteers are needed to distribute food; to
monitor traps; and to provide transportation to and from vet clinics. To
volunteer, go to their website CampusCATS
and click on "Volunteer". You can also help by adopting a kitten that has
been taken from the mother at an appropriate age and has been tamed, neutered,
and given its vaccines. If you have a barn and need a cat for rodent control,
arrangements can be made to relocate a neutered cat from the campus colony.
The KIND News Fund
CCHS has been providing the children's publication "KIND News" to all
the first and third grade students in the city and county schools as a
supplement to their life sciences and reading curricula. The focus of the
publication is respect for animals, the environment, and other people. Teachers
have responded so positively about KIND News and how much the children love
reading it that we are want to continue to subscribe. You can see samples of
past issues online at: the KIND News
website. A subscription for all the students in those two grades costs over
$3,000 each year. Please help us plan ahead for next year's subscription by
donating specifically to The KIND News Fund. Thank you!
The Rainbow Fund
If you don't have time to physically volunteer, but would still like to
help out in some way, you can donate money to the Rainbow Fund, which is used to
support Foster animals in need of extra medical care or behavioral training.
Just send your check or money order to: Carroll County Humane Society Rainbow
Fund, P.O. Box 1304, Carrollton GA 30112. If you have identified a particular
animal you want to support, write the name of that animal on the check, or if
you just want to donate to the fund in general, write "Rainbow Fund" on the
check.
Fund Raising and Special Events
The Humane Society needs willing hands and creative minds to help with
fund raising projects and special events, such as the Annual Fun Dog Show and
Mayfest. If you are already a CCHS member, just call 770-830-2763 and we'll add
your name to our list of volunteers. If you are not yet a member, print off the
membership form and send in your check for $15, indicating on the form what
activities you would like to volunteer for.
Support Enforcement of the New Georgia Animal Abuse
Felony Law
Give our local law enforcement and prosecutor's office all the support and
encouragement they need in order to pursue cases of animal abuse to the fullest
extent the law and evidence allow. Phone calls, letters, or emails to the head
of the law enforcement agency that is making a case thanking them for their
attention to animal abuse cases will assure them that they have our support.
Donate Pet Food or Funds to our Empty Pet Bowl
Program
Sometimes people's checks don't quite cover all their expenses and they need
a little help to tie them over till their next check. We're trying to help pet
owners who find themselves in this position by stocking a supply of pet food
that we can donate when needed. If you would like to donate food for this
program, the drop off locations are: Horton's Book and Gift Store on the Square
in Carrollton, Tractor Supply, Kroger, Carroll County Animal Hospital, and DieTech.
Or you can send a check to CCHS, P.O. Box 1304,
Carrollton GA 30112. Please specify Empty Pet Bowl on the check.
If you would like to need a donation of free pet food for your pets, the Manna House distributes
pet food every Tuesday at 10:00 (770- 834-5755). You can request food from the Empty
Pet Bowls storage room at the Carroll County Animal Shelter from 8:00-5:00, Monday through
Saturday (770-834-8150). Or you can request it through the West Georgia Spay/Neuter Clinic in
Villa Rica (Monday through Thursday only).
Donate a Dog Bed
We have chosen Kuranda dog beds for our boarding facilities because they are
so good for our foster dogs. We still don't have enough for all of our kennels.
If you would like to donate a bed so another dog can sleep in proper comfort,
please click here.
