This is the fourth time that Professor Melissa Hullender and her biology classes at UWG have so generously supported the animals at the shelter and the animals in families who are feeling the pinch in this economy by collecting pet food. This time she was joined by Professor Heard and his biology classes. The food collected will be shared between the shelter animals and the CCHS Empty Pet Bowls program. The latter program distributes free pet food to individual families and to social service agencies so that pet owners do not have to give up their pets due to financial hardship.
Here are the results: Over 950 lbs. of dry dog food was donated! This breaks down to approximately 150 bags of dog food, as well as some canned food. More than 123 students took part in this dog food drive.
Professor Hullender speaks for all of us when she says: "I am very proud that the generosity of the UWG biology students has now stocked the shelter pantry with over 150 bags of dog food." We all share her pride in these students. We can only imagine how many animals' lives will be positively affected by their compassion.
In the fall of 2011, Pet Supplies Plus in Carrollton collected donations for CCHS from their customers. The total amount came to a little over $800! We appreciate very much the store management and those who donated to the fund drive.
Thank you very much to the 111 students in Melissa Hullender's biology 1107 class at UWG who contributed to the Empty Pet Bowls Program the following: 372 lbs. of dry dog food; 65 lbs. of dry cat food; 45 cans of cat food; 75 cans of dog food and $25 towards the Fix Fido program. We think it's wonderful that they care so much about Carroll County's pet owners and their animals who might be facing hard times this winter as the economy continues to struggle.
The 2011 Fun Dog Show was such a great time and a successful fundraiser for our Fix Fido Fund, which subsidizes pet owners who can't afford the regular prices at the CCHS's West Georgia Spay/Neuter Clinic. We want to thank all our supporters who made it possible.

On May 21, 2011, the folks at Pilgrim's in Carrollton sponsored a very successful motorcycle ride and fundraiser for CCHS - "Cruisin' for Critters". There was also a live radio broadcast during the event. In addition, two of the dogs from the shelter who attended found themselves new families that day. We thank the employees at Pilgrim's for their enthusiastic support.
Dr. Honey Darvas of the Theatre Department at the University of West Georgia asked her students to donate food to the Empty Pet Bowls project this semester. The astonishing result was two car loads of food - one has already been delivered to the storage facility and the second will be delivered this week. Our sincere thanks to Dr. Darvas and her students for their generosity and concern for the needy animals of Carroll County.
Melissa Sandrene, a biology professor at the University of West Georgia, asked the two biology classes that she taught this quarter to celebrate Earth Day by donating pet food. The response from the two classes was amazing! She estimates that between 65 and 80 students from each class participated and some brought in more than one item! She received so many donations, she was able to deliver one car load to the Carroll County Animal Shelter and another car load to the CCHS Empty Pet Bowls program, which provides pet food for pet owners in financial straits. Needless to say, Ms Sandrene was very proud of the generosity of her students. CCHS would like to thank Ms. Sandrene and her students for their concern and compassion for Carroll County's animals.

In addition, our sincere thanks to the event participants and donors for their generosity and support.
The Shopper provides space weekly for publishing photos and descriptions of the adoptable animals at the Carroll County Animal Shelter. The Shopper reaches so many people that it gives the dogs and cats a much better chance at finding new, loving homes. Thank you to Elizabeth Enney and her staff for all they are doing for the animals!
The next time you have a chance, please thank them for their generosity in supporting the Carroll County Humane Society's programs and the needy animals of Carroll County.

Virginia Westlake and the folks at Coldwell Banker/First Reality in Villa Rica offered to sponsor CCHS at their semi-annual 50-family yard sale on September 13. The proceeds from the renting of yard sale spaces were donated to the Humane Society, and we were invited to have our own "white elephant" table as well as a refreshment booth as fund raisers. Thank you very much!
Many thanks to Jo Ann and Peter Burns for bringing their beautiful therapy dogs, Pilot and C.W., and to Kim Ludeman from Kritter Korral for bringing her three pygmy goats, Nicole, Bailey and Oreo. This money will be used to pay for medication, spay and neuter surgery, and vaccines for animals that CCHS rescues from the county shelter. Many thanks to Anna and her friends and a belated "Happy Birthday, Anna!"
